The Kiko breed of goats is relatively “new” breed of meat goat in the US. The Kiko breed originated in New Zealand when ranchers sought a hardy breed of goat that would be parasite resistant but also have good mothering and birthing rates. They soon found that crossing a domestic goat and a wild goat produced an animal that was hardy, vigorous foragers, parasite resistant and made excellent mothers.
The meat produced by goats is leaner and has a higher protein content than many other traditional meats.
