Livestock guardian dog; kiko goats

Why Goats?

As two city-raised kids, we really had no idea of what we were getting ourselves into when we “Bought the Farm”. We had goals and ambitions and lots of ideas of what we could do with the land, however, we also had two small children, full-time jobs, and other obligations! We did a lot of mowing – I do mean a LOT! – but before we knew it, the fields were overrun with trees, weeds and bushes. It was more than we could keep up with! We needed some help – enter “Goats”.

Matt did a lot of researching to find out which breeds of goats were the hardiest, needed the least amount of care and inputs, and could handle the drastic Kansas weather. His research led him to Kiko goats. These fund and friendly animals were just what we needed. Once we got a small area fenced, (that’s a whole other topic!) we found a rancher that was reducing his herd size. He sold us a package that included nine breeding does (females), one buck (male) and one wether (castrated male) for company and a livestock guardian dog.

Let the adventures begin!
